Why is eating seasonal fruits important for health.

It is wrong to presume that only costly fruits like pomegranate, grapes, apple etc have better health promoting properties. Seasonal fruits like Eugenia Jambolana (Jamun), Bael (Wood Apple), Capegooseberry (Makoya), Falsa (Grewia Asiatica) and Papaya are high in nutritional benefits and should not be considered as inferior fruits.  In reality these cheap fruits carry high nutritional value and comprise of rich dietary as they contain a large store of essential vitamins and mineral salts. At the same time they work as good alternatives to the respective seasonal defects. Owing to their cheapness both rich and poor can benefit by their high nutritional value. Practically there seems to exist a silent wink of nature to encourage the use of fruits that grow abundantly in particular season.

 

Sages have advised to eat seasonal fruits abundantly as they grow. Non seasonal fruits can only satisfy the sense of taste but cannot promote health and happiness. Thus when particular fruits grow abundantly in a certain season it should be concluded that the Almighty wishes us to enjoy them in that season.

Drink water at right time

During my childhood days I was taught by my grandmother when to drink water and when to avoid drinking water. Most of people are not aware about right time to drink water. Water makes up more than two-third of the weight of the human body. It’s very important to know when we should drink water.

When to drink water:

  • Drink a glass of water after you wake up to hydrate your body after a long night sleep. Luke warm water or water stored in copper vessel is best. Drinking water in morning will clear all the toxins out of your system and will make your organs moving. Add lemon, honey or cinnamon to the water for better detoxification.
  • Drink a glass of water 30 minutes before a meal to help digestion. And drink water 30 minutes after the meal to allow the body to absorb the nutrients.
  • Drink water before and after your exercise. Water regulates your body temperature. If you are not hydrated, your body can’t perform at the highest level. You may feel tired and can have muscle cramps.
  • Drink a glass of water when you feel tired. Drinking a glass of water helps brain to function well.
  • And very important, drink water when you are thirsty. Thirst is a natural urge that should be heeded. It means your body needs water.

When not to drink water:

  • Don’t drink water immediately before meal. And don’t drink water immediately after the meal. In both the cases water flushes out all the digestive juices present in body. If you want just sips half a glass of water after meal to clear your throat and mouth.
  • Don’t drink water while eating meal. If you want some fluid while eating then go for buttermilk (chaas) or raita.
